EGGS and PASTURED POULTRY

The girls are happier that it is a little cooler. They have started back laying again. We took 6 doz. to the market last Saturday. So if you are looking for country, all natural brown eggs the “Hen House” is open for business. It should continue to get better as we progress into the fall season. By the winter we should have around 100 laying hens to take us through the molting (lose of feathers and no egg production) season in January. As the young hens will not molt this year. So there should be enough egg production to take us through , we hope.

We have 150 little yellow dots (Cornish broiler hens) running around getting feathers and spreading there wings trying to fly. They are quite comical to watch. They should be out on full pasture by next week. * The reviews are in and everyone loved the last batch. If your in need of filling your freezer now is the time to order. If you are a new customer please call for further instructions, (270- 522-4949 ). If you are a returning customer, just call or email and let us know how many you want us to save for you.

Have a great Labor Day week-end and be saf

I hope you have had a wonderful summer.  The children are back in school, vacations are over, most of the gardens are done in western KY. Just to dry and  hot. I am not sure about the fall crops.  We have planted pumpkins and a late crop of beans. But they need water.

It is hard to believe but the farmers are picking field corn and  staking tobacco.  Soon the wonderful smell of the smoking barns will fill the air.  The leaves will start to change and the Canadian geese will V across the sky.

The pastured poultry was wonderful. I hope everyone got to try some that wanted to. If you would like to try some or need more, we will be having our last batch of 2010, ready the middle of October, just in time to fill your freezer. We only have 150 birds, so when these are gone there will be no more till June of next year. So make sure you call and reserve yours today.  A $3.00 deposit per bird, will make sure you get the quantity that you want. Then the cost will be $4.50 per lb. when you pick up your birds.

We also have pastured beef.  No hormones, No antibiotics, and No GMO grains. Just great pastures moved every week, fresh cool water and all the cow things that come naturally.  Happy, healthy cattle.  They just taste better.  Call the farm or stop by the farmers market in Hopkinsville, KY to purchase/order/ and pricing. We will be adding prices to our web page soon.  Sorry you will have to call, we do not have a “cart” options yet.  We will ship.

Call you bakery orders in for delivery to the Farmers Market. We will also ship bakery.

Can everyone say “tooooo much!!” We have gotten arround 13″ in North Trigg Co. over the last month.

The grass is high and deep and not enough dry days to cut and get it cured to make hay. We still have a few things left to put in the garden and we need to cultivate.   But we can’t get on the ground yet.  The weeds just seam to laugh at us because they just keep on growing!  The Hoptown markets are doing good.   Don’t forget to call in your orders in so you can make sure you have what you want when you get there,  that way you can sleep in.  Good idea right?

The Freedom Ranger day-old chicks are hatched in the heart of the Pennsylvania Dutch Country. The breeding stock is imported from the regions of Burgundy and Brittany (France). The genetic stock is derived from the American and European old heritage breed of chicken and was developed in the early 1960’s to meet the highest standards of the French Label Rouge Free Range program. Currently, the Freedom Ranger genetic stock is used by most non-factory farm production models (alternative) all across Europe and also by small pastured poultry producers in search of a traditionally raised farm chicken – just like the “oldies”, healthy and with a succulent flavor and texture.

Since our Freedom Ranger Broilers are a slower growing breed, they are naturally better suited to the higher welfare and all true natural rearing systems (full pasturing, free range, organic, certified, backyard etc.…). In the United States most modern poultry industrial production models use fast growing breeds (hybrid white synthetic Cornish crosses).

Natural instinct and behavior is preserved in the selection and growing methods of our Freedom Ranger breeding stock. It goes without saying that our birds love foraging in pastures, free ranging outside, always looking for natural sunlight and fresh air, as well as ground scratching and dust bathing.

At J. M. Hatchery Inc. we strongly believe in traditional, sustainable, and environmentally friendly farming methods, and we are convinced that allowing the Freedom Rangers to do what comes naturally ensures an incredible meal for your table!  AND WE AGREE !!!
